mControl v2.10 Release Candidate GOLD (RCGOLD)
The following version includes: - Installer for Windows XP and Windows Vista (.NET 2.0 is required) - Installer for Windows Home Server - Installer for mControl Clients (and mControl Server configuration utility) Major work completed since mControl v2.1 Release Candiate 1 (RC1): >> INSTEON protocol enhancements, including: - Initial release of the mControl INSTEON Utility - Initial support for new INSTEON thermostat (Venstar) - Initial support for EZIOxx devices (SimpleHomeNet) - Proper button display for INSTEON multi-level devices (e.g., dimmers) - Message throttling to mitigate INSTEON adapter send/receive collisions - Improved communication support for devices requiring multiple hops in INSTEON mesh network - Improved handling of clean-up messaging after a group command >> Improvements to mControl for Windows Mobile Client - Status updates now are shown automatically, rather than upon refresh - Ability to view cameras directly from the server >> Improved connection methodology for mControl clients - New installer allows easy mControl client installation and configuation on PCs connected by local area network to mControl server - Robustness improvements related to client/server connections, including Windows Home Server The following known limitations exist: 1. While this version does install on 64-bit versions of Vista (in 32-bit compatibility mode), we still need rework the Vista Media Center client for a 64-bit systems 2. MCE Events from extenders (e.g., Xbox 360) are not received by the mControl MSASAddin. We are investigating this but this may be by design. I appreciate all your hard work on getting a gold version out.
The "Clients connection configurator" Doesn't appear to be setting the server info. It found the mediacenter and allowed me to set it to the default however it didn't set anything. I still have to go in and modify the mcml and remotingClient.config to point to the correct location. Thanks again Jay |

syner,
Can you send us your log files in the C:\Program Files\Embedded Automation\mControl\logs directory. We will try to determine what is going on. Send the files to support at embeddedautomation dot com. Ted |

jbworks,
Hmm, it works for us. This is what should have happened: - You start the client installer - It then installs the clients - After the clients are installed (~3/4 of the way through), it will pop-up a window and allow you to set your default server. Once you see a green check mark beside it, you close the window and installation completes - The installation completes. This should change the required settings on the installed clients. Ted |

I just downloaded the RCGold version and was excited to test it out. I have mControl installed on WHS. I uninstalled the the prior version from WHS and restarted the WHS box. I then copied the new mControlWHS_Setup.msi to the software\add-ins directory. When I go to install the add-in in WHS under the Add-In's area of WHS, there is nothing available to install. The available add-ins is just blank. I decided to copy the prior version (Build 2967) to my WHS and found out that it shows up just fine in WHS. Any thoughts?

I didn't have any problems installing it on WHS. It was a new install. I did download the file directly to the box before copying it over. I'm guessing it might be a permission issue on the file. The only issue I had was the filewall blocking the ports. I would add this step to the setup document as I had to find the information on the forum.
I haven't been able get the website working but I'm pretty sure it's just a setting somewhere. |

Thanks for the idea CalypsoCowboy. I checked the properties of the .msi add-in file and noticed that there was a button on the general tab that said Unblock (This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer). I clicked the Unblock button and then saved it on my WHS. The add-in now magically appears!!! I have since installed the add-in on my WHS box without a problem.

I had to reinstall my WHS machine a few days ago. I had a complete disk failure...
I got a backup of my device database from 2.0, and installed the RTM mControl and used it for a few days, until installing the 2.1 version tonight. OMG.

Next problem. After installing the WHS add-in and then installing the clientsandaddins.msi on my Windows Media Center 2005 box and configuring the new clients configuration utility, I tried to click on the mControl for IE link in my program menu. All I get is a resource cannot be found 404 error - requested url /default.aspx. I then tried to access this from the windows media center and had the same result. The web address that the page is trying to open is http://[IP Address of WHS]/default.aspx. I have no problem accessing mControl by typing in http://[IP Address of WHS]/mcontrol. I have the same problem trying to access the mobile site with my mobile phone. I've searched this support forum and found some references of similar problems, but have not found a solution that works for me yet. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
