Default Embedded Automation Announces mStation

Embedded Automation Announces mStation
Universal Platform for Energy Management Solutions

Surrey, BC – December 18, 2009

Today, Embedded Automation announced mStation, a platform designed to simplify deployment of energy management solutions. As the next stage of the mHome product family, the mStation platform integrates the next generation of mControl software, wireless communication technologies and energy management standards in one convenient package. mStation simplifies the connection between the “Smart Grid” and the home, enabling utilities and consumers to work together to optimize energy usage.

mStation helps utility companies who need to provide their customers a way to control energy consumption in response to demand-driven energy prices. This is accomplished by allowing mStation to centrally control energy usage of all devices in the home. With a bi-directional connection, mStation can also provide real-time in-home energy information to the utility.

“Over the past year, mHome products have been involved in several energy management and eco-friendly pilot projects, including most visibly the Solar Decathlon, where our products helped Team North and Team Cornell finish fourth and seventh respectively. We’ve integrated with metering systems and worked to support emerging Smart Grid standards. We’ve encapsulated this experience in to the mStation platform, which represents the in-home side of the Smart Grid eco-system,” said Ted S. Singh, CEO of Embedded Automation. “The mStation appliance can be part of a utility’s user premises plan driven by our ability to connect to smart metering and demand-response infrastructure. As the bridge to the Smart Grid within the home, mStation is positioned to provide utilities and consumers with real-time energy information and, more importantly, the tools to optimize energy usage. With the proven capability of mControl software and mechanisms to extend the existing interfaces, all within a small but mass-deployable platform, we believe that mStation represents the future of home energy management.”

The mStation platform bundles several technology enhancements:
  • Built-in support for ZigBee wireless technology widely used within Smart Grid and emerging home automation applications. mStation optionally implements multiple ZigBee transmitters to enable bridging between multiple wireless networks. As a member of the ZigBee Alliance, Embedded Automation will be providing support for ZigBee profiles including Smart Energy (SE) and Home Automation (HA).
  • mControl v3, the next generation of Embedded Automation’s popular and award-winning mControl software. mControl software is a proven solution, used by thousands of users worldwide to manage their digital homes. mControl supports a wide-range of digital home technologies including INSTEON, Z-Wave and KNX. mControl provides status and control functionality for energy management, security/surveillance and digital media applications. The mControl database tracks energy information for each connected device.
  • mStation’s web services software infrastructure allows it the flexibility to support information exchange with external servers. mStation also implements Representational State Transfer (REST) – allowing custom software developers to quickly develop or connect other applications.
mStation will be available in limited quantities in Q1 2010, with full availability in Q2 2010.
