Default IMPORTANT: How to upgrade to mControl v2.00

We've been getting a lot of support emails on how to upgrade to mControl v2.00 from older versions. mControl v2.0 is a *FREE* upgrade for users of older mControl v1.xx versions.

If you're going to be using the same machine (not switching to a new machine), then here is the basic procedure:

1. Uninstall your previous version of mControl using the Control Panel's Add/Remove Program utility - do NOT try to just delete the mControl directories. The uninstallation procedure will retain your mControl database and your license - do NOT delete any directories, as you may delete these necessary files.

2. mControl v1.00 through v1.70 used .NET Framework 1.1, but mControl v2.00 and beyond will use .NET Framework 2.0. Chances are you already have .NET Framework v2.0 installed but if you want to find out for sure, check here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318785. If you don't have .NET Framework, you'll need to download it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en. If you want to know what .NET Framework is, we suggest: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.NET_Framework.

3. Download and save the latest formally released mControl v2.0 zip file from the main Embedded Automation site: http://www.embeddedautomation.com/EAHAmControl.htm. If you like living on the bleeding edge, we do have betas of newer versions here: http://www.embeddedautomation.com/fo...splay.php?f=19. You'll also have to unzip the downloaded version of mControl v2.0 - before installing.

4. Use this guide to install mControl: . http://www.embeddedautomation.com/mC...on%20Guide.pdf.

IMPORTANT: If you're installing on Vista - please use the following guidelines: http://www.embeddedautomation.com/fo...read.php?t=595

If you are switching machines, for example, switching to a new Vista machine, use the following procedure:

A. Do steps 2 to 4 above.

B. To copy your previous license and database over from your previous installation, follow the instructions in the section called "Moving mControl to a New Computer" on the last page (pg.18) of the Installation Guide: http://www.embeddedautomation.com/mC...on%20Guide.pdf
